13th January 2009: Poliomyelitis in Nigeria and West Africa
From 2003 to 2007, type 1 polio originating in northern Nigeria spread to cause outbreaks in 20 previously polio-free countries,including across west Africa, the Horn of Africa, and as far away as Indonesia and Yemen (source: WHO).
26th August 2008: Yellow fever in Côte d’Ivoire
The Ministry of Health of Côte d’Ivoire has declared a yellow fever outbreak in Abidjan. The outbreak was laboratory confirmed at the beginning of May 2008 (source: WHO).
