Dr. Josefina Enfedaque, the EEC Project Officer in charge of the project, and two members of the Scientific Advisory Board, Prof. Rowlands(Leeds) and Prof. Pauwels(St Légier) were the special guests of the meeting.
During this intense 2-day meeting, the Section Managers presented to the 60 participants the progresses and the difficulties encountered during the last six months.
The new management structures added to the project, the WAVEs (Workinggroup for the Advancement of Viral Enzymes) were presented, together with the first positive results generated. Waves are meant to improve communication and thus, chances of success mainly for crystallization. They are dedicated to some families of targets, that are studied as a group by a single partner in each section. The coordination performed by a "wave manager" is therefore easier and faster.
Since the project was satisfactorily progressing, with most of the deliverables being ahead of schedule, the Scientific advisory board was quite impressed and the Project Officer congratulated the consortium.
The meeting was also the opportunity for partners to define or refine the future action plans. It was happily concluded by a visit of Leuven.
Next meeting (30 months of the project) will be organized in Marseille(France) by the AFMB, on April the 25-26th 2007, and followed by the first Vizier industrial and scientific meeting organized by the VIP on April the 27th.
