Role and contribution

BIO-XTAL is a private company, founded in April 1998, that aims at providing services in protein expression and 3D structure resolution. The customers are mainly industrials, whose interest lies in expression of integral membrane proteins and the determination of protein-inhibitor complexes on a high throughput scale. BIO-XTAL has taken a strong effort in protein production

Expertise in high throughput and industrial procedures: Through its numerous contacts with pharmaceutical and biotech companies (which are intensively developing HTP technologies for recombinant protein production and screening for their own purposes), and through the expertise of its scientific director Dr. Kenneth Lundstrom, BIO-XTAL is well placed for playing a key role in the successful integration of an efficient HTP format within the current project.
Expertise in alphavirus based membrane protein expression: Through its involvement in the MEPNET research programme and its service activities, BIO-XTAL has successfully amplified targets from cDNA libraries and polyA+ RNAs in a 96 well format. However, the major contribution is in the alphavirus-based platform, which allows overexpression of several types of proteins and enzymes in BHK-21, CHO-K1, HEK293 and many other mammalian cells.
