Architecture et Fonction des Macromolécules Biologiques

by Bruno Canard (Friday 23rd April 2004)

Role and contribution

AFMB is a Structural Biology laboratory which counts 72 people, among which 30 are directly involved in protein crystallography, the remaining people being in charge of NMR, molecular biology, biochemistry, enzymology and biophysics. AFMB is involved in 4 structural genomics (SG) programmes for which a common platform for protein expression, purification and crystallization has been set up. One of these programmes, the 5th FWP pilot IP ‘SPINE’, is a major component for the integration of AFMB approaches with other European Partners in which its capacity in high-throughput (HT) approaches has been specially required. AFMB has been among leaders in Europe for robotised crystallisation and the use of nanodrops.
People involved in the VIZIER project are: Bruno Canard project coordinator, is Research Director at the CNRS, in charge of the AFMB group "Viral replication: structure, mechanism, and drug-design". He has 42 published articles in refereed journal ; Sonia Longhi, is a senior scientist within the CNRS in charge of processing the sequence information on the targets, and of the functional and structural characterization of structural proteins. Marie-Pierre Egloff, is a senior scientist at the CNRS and has a role of expertise in crystallogenesis, in crystal structure determination and in analysing the structural models. Valérie Campanacci, Young Scientist (CNRS), is in charge of the protein production and of the quality control of proteins. Silvia Spinelli is a Senior Scientist (CNRS), in charge of the crystallisation platform. Véronique Zamboni, Technical Assistant, is in charge of the crystallisation robots and crystal optimization.
